bacon & bourbon: watermark infusion apple bourbon

the Watermark Asbury ParkAsbury Park, NJ used to be a destination, then it was a De-militarized Zone, now it’s in a Renaissance of sorts. Anyone who used to frequent the Saint or the Stone Pony or remembers Warped Tour held behind the old Berkley Carteret is probably shocked to see how lively and vibrant the place it. Gone are the days of underdone burgers and boardwalk fries at the dilapidated HoJo or fried dogs and warm beer at Asbury Lanes for sure. I was treated to something entirely different on my trip down when I stopped at The Watermark : Beautiful shoreline vistas of the Atlantic Ocean with a light crisp breeze cascading across the rooftop deck. Cut wood decor that merges modern and rustic throughout the venue into an inviting maze of lounging cushions and railing side stools. …And a drink menu to make your mouth water.

There’s a whole section dedicated to whiskeys along with a whole section dedicated to their house infusions, so when all is said and done, there’s a whole lot to be had that is tasty.

House Green Apple Infused Bourbon, Fresh Lemon Sour and Homemade Ginger Beer On the Rocks – Yeah, that tastes exactly as divine as you think it does. The Apple Bourbon itself is just shy of a left turn from normal bourbon, there’s an extra hit of sweet up front that pairs well with the natural flavor bourbon but it’s slightly tart back end that really makes the liquor. As for the rest of the mix it works extraordinarily well to accentuate the subtle notes further and the ginger makes a nice round between the sweet and tart flavors. It was served with a slice of green apple which was a nice touch. The drink also comes neet and as a “straight and sour”

Also included in their menu that were intriguing:

Double Fill-up – 100 Proof Rye, Mint, Lemon, Simple Syrup and Pomegranate Molasses
The Pucker – Apple Bourbon, Fresh Lime Juice, Cane Syrup, Apple Cider with a Brown Sugar Rim
Watermark Manhattan – Rittenhouse 100 Proof Rye, Sweet Vermouth, Angostura Bitters and Brandied Cherries
among several others that you’ll just have to make a trip out to them to find out more about for yourself!
