Bacon & Bourbon: the Lexington Local

The UES has its share of interesting food-stops and Yorkville’s Vespa Cibobuono is no exception. The green market out front, the quaint back yard hidden from the bustle of Second Ave, the deliberately slow service that allows you to really savor each course are just a few of the reasons to keep coming back if the delectable food isn’t enough. Because meals are a marathon when we go, there’s usually pre-dinner drinks and in an interesting twist most of the cocktails aren’t Italian themed (thankfully)

Immediately one caught my eye – The Lexington Local – Rebel Yell bourbon, Bombay gin, St Germain bitters, honey, lime juice, chili pepper flakes

That, my friend is awesome. For starters, look at the bourbon for the base, Rebel Fucking Yell. For the price there are probably few bourbons that can hold up to the Rebel, particularly in something like this. It isn’t as smooth as say a good sippin whiskey so it takes on the other flavors with a boldness. There’s a great balance to this with the lime, honey and chilis and a real depth to the body with the gin and bitters to balance the bourbon. It is difficult to not appreciate this spin on the Manhattan, which is why it’s become my go-to drink there.
