mixtape: samhain – all saints – a halloween monday mix

Today is All Hallow’s Eve. There are a large number of cultural references to the day worldwide, with the most prominent of such revolving around the Gaelic harvest festival and later its coexistence with the Catholic Christian celebration of All Saint’s Day. Many of the ethnic and cultural traditions celebrated the Oct 31 to 1 Nov have their roots in the conflict and attemtped marrying of the two. In celebration of such a dubious coming-together, I’ve decided to go back to one of my more challenging, yet, enjoyable thematic playlist offerings for the well-timed Monday Mixtape this week and put together a little of everything that makes up the holiday, so to speak.
